Analysis of Food Supplements by ICP-OES with Axial Plasma Observation
Concentrations of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, and cadmium in food supplements are governed by regulations such as EC No. 629/2008. These permit only very low concentration levels. So their measurement must be performed by highly precise instruments such as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) analyzers.
This application report discusses key steps in the analysis of a capsule containing curcuma, the main active ingredient in turmeric. The required analytical precision was obtained by using a SPECTROBLUE FME36 compact midrange ICP-OES analyzer with high-sensitivity axial plasma observation.
The report presents results — including heavy metal concentrations — confirmed using different analytical methods. Read it to discover how effective analysis of food supplements can occur in your lab.
